she gazed into the mirror as her appearance became more distorted

her body didn't seem to belong to her and her hands moved without being told

with a muddled mind and a crooked smile, she introduced herself to the reflection

she had shadows underneath her eyes and dry lips

her teeth weren't straight and her nose wasn't tiny

but there was something special about her blemished skin and faded eyes

she commented on her image, but the girl's only reply

was to mimic her motions without flaw, right down to her humble disguise

it was unnerving

the way her gaze pierced through the depth of her soul

she knew every secret the girl tried to hide

every emotion she pushed down

every peculiarity she tried to conceal

the girl in the mirror knew how much power she possessed

she could tear her other half apart without a second thought

she could point out the way that her figure wasn't thin enough

she could remind her that her smile was fake

but she stayed silent, allowing the other girl to introduce herself

following her gestures and watching carefully to stay in sync

with the girl who talked to mirrors

unaware of what lived behind them
